Michelle Williams is opening up about her battle with depression in her new memoir, “Checking In: How Getting Real About Depression Saved My Life–and Can Save Yours.”

“There were times, I swear to God, I didn’t want to die but wanted the pain to stop,” Williams says in her memoir. “I now know that these are two very different things.”

“I was extremely sad to the point of feeling nothing at all,” she says. “My heart ached so much I wanted to rip it out.”

Williams details that depression made her push away family and friends, and that she wasn’t interested in anything.

She also says that depression played a role in her being sexually abused by a family member at the age of 7 and in an attempted suicide in 2013.

In the book, Williams says that doctors said she couldn’t be diagnosed because “she was too young” and “had no control over her feelings.”
